Mississippi is the major river system in the United States. The
Yangtze is China’s longest river. Although a world apart, the
two waterways share conservation concerns that provide a
cultural bridge between students in the United States and China,
as well as from around the world. The Mississippi flows almost
3,800 kilometers from a small lake in Minnesota, gathering the
waters of 250 other rivers and streams before reaching the Gulf
of Mexico. In mid-May, as spring flowers began to open, about
41 students from a dozen colleges, mostly in the Midwest,
explored a section of the river in Wisconsin and Iowa, to learn
about the environment, and each other. The students, from the
U.S., China and around the world, came to join the River Spirit
Exchange program. The cross-cultural educational experience -
set up by the University of Wisconsin, Madison-based
Environment and Public Health Network for Chinese Students -
focuses on the Mississippi and China's longest river, the
Yangtze. This three day get-together featured story-telling,
hiking, camping and canoeing, all part of a larger lesson about
conservation projects that can be used on both the Yangtze and
Mississippi. While the students learned about the problems
challenging the Mississippi and Yangtze, Jeb Barzen, a wildlife
biologist, explained they should also learn about the
importance of bridging each other’s culture. president of the
Environment and Public Health Network for Chinese Students,
Xiaojun Lu, said the Mississippi and Yangtze Rivers are uniting
these students from opposite ends of the earth. Organizers say
the success and spirit of this first gathering of students will

the San Jose gold and copper mine in northern Chile had reason
to sing this week. A small hole drilled into the earth became
a passage to freedom for 33 trapped miners, who spent 69 days
underground. “Never have people been trapped for so long so
deeply,” says a doctor at NASA, the American space agency,
which helped in the rescue. But the chief medical officer for
the miners said most are in good enough health to leave the
hospital within a day or so. The first three recovered and went
home Thursday night. For much of the day the miners relaxed with
Chilean President Sebastian Pinera. The 32 Chileans and 1
Bolivian still wore special sunglasses to protect their eyes.
A partial mine collapse on 5th August trapped them more than
half a kilometer underground. They had to stretch a two-day food
supply. For two weeks no one knew if they were alive or dead.
Later, they received supplies. The first miner rescued on
Wednesday was Florencio Avalos. The second was Mario Sepulveda,
who talked about how the experience tested his faith. The last
miner up was Luis Urzua, who was the shift leader when his crew
became trapped. Rescuers used a metal cage to pull the miners
to safety in less than 24 hours ― faster than expected. The
rescue capsule was a half-meter wide and known as the Phoenix,
an imaginary bird from ancient stories. It bursts into flames
but is continually reborn and rises from the ashes. Chile’s
Navy built the capsule with advice from mining experts and NASA
engineers. It worked like an elevator, traveling up and down
on a cable through a shaft(竖井)drilled 622 meters into the
rocks. Millions of people around the world watched the rescue.
More than one thousand journalists traveled to the mine in the
Atacama Desert to report on the rescue. They joined family
members of the miners and rescue crews housed in an area of tents
known as Camp Hope. 61. What would be the best title for the
passage? A. Rescued miners speak out B. Miners’ life deep

thing a person can have, but one cannot take good health for .
It is important to remember that the body needs proper care in
order to be healthy. There are three things that a person can
do to help stay in good shape: eat right food ,get enough sleep,
and exercise regularly Proper nutrition is important for good
health. Your body cannot work well unless it receives the proper
kind of “fuel”.Don't eat too much food with lots of sugar and
fat. Eat plenty of foods high in protein ,like meat, fish, eggs
and nuts. Vegetables and fruits are very important because they
provide necessary vitamins and minerals. However, don't
overeat. It is not helpful to be overweight. Getting the proper
amount of sleep is also important. If you don't get enough sleep,
you feel tired and easily get angry. You have no energy. Over
a long period of time a little a amount of sleep may even result
in a change of personality (人的个性).Be sure to allow yourself
from seven to nine hours of sleep each night. If you do, your
body will feel strong and refreshed, and your mind will be sharp.
Finally, get plenty of exercise. Exercise firms the body,
strengthens the muscles, and prevents you from gaining weight.
It also improves your heart and lungs. If you follow a regular
exercise program, you will probably increase your life-span (寿
命).Any kind of exercise is good. Most sports are excellent for
keeping the body in good shapes: basketball, swimming,
bicycling, running and so on are good examples. Sports are not
only good for your body, but they are enjoyable and interesting,
too. If everybody, were to eat the right foods, get plenty of
sleep and exercise regularly, the world would be a happier and
healthier place. We would all live to be much older and wiser.

winter time, and the sea was very cold, so the captain said to

求进行答题。(请注意问题后的字数要求) [1] Teenagers who spend
hours in front of the television may have a poorer diet as young
adults, a new study suggests. It's not clear, researchers say,
whether television itself is the reason, but it is possible that
things like snacking(吃零食) in front of the TV or seeing ads
for junk food influence young people's diets. [2] The study
included nearly 1,400 high school students. It showed that
those who watched TV for five hours or more everyday had
less-healthy diets than their students five years later. As a
group, they ate fewer fruits and vegetables, but ate more fast
food, snack products and fried foods. [3] "We're not able to
tell why," lead researcher Dr. Daheia J. Barr-Anderson said.
"But we do have some speculations." People who spend a lot of
time in front of the TV, especially teenagers, may have more
snacks. It may influence their long-term diet quality. It's
also possible that TV ads for fast food, sweets and snacks make
teenagers eat more of those foods. TV time might also replace
exercise time for some kids. [4] The researchers found a clear
relationship between TV time during high school and diet
quality of the young. The heaviest TV viewers , and those who'd
watched fewer than two hours everyday had the most fruits,
vegetables. [5] According to Barr-Anderson, the findings
support experts' advice that children should watch no more than
two hours of television everyday. "Parents should cut the TV
time," Barr-Anderson said. She advised that parents set a good
example by eating right, being physically active and
controlling their own TV time. 76. Complete the following

more than 5 words) Some children may spend much time watching
