Being often late and taking long showers, I knew that I had difficulties in the important areas, so I decided to make up for it in appearance. I prepared a lot of clothes. However, I found out later, the students at ASS didn't care too much about their clothing. They were too busy studying.‎ This year, classes at my German school lasted close to the end of June. I was there in what would be considered the final weeks of the school year. I went to different classes that were offered to the students and was surprised to see there weren't many computers, and other forms of technology that are thought to be necessary for teaching in the US. Yet my German classmates studied advanced (高深的) knowledge in every subject and everybody could speak at least two languages very well. ‎ Walking into the ASS cafeteria (食堂),I was greeted with many kinds of fresh sandwiches, and bread and butter (奶油) topped with tomatoes and cheese for a total of close to 1 euro. Later I found out that all the people who work in the cafeteria are volunteer parents; no wonder the food looked and tasted so delicious!‎ I loved every moment of my trip to Germany. The exchange has been a great eye opener for me. I would like to thank everybody who made this trip possible. I hope this exchange program will continue for the good of students from both ASS and my school!‎ ‎24. What did the author plan to do to make up for her disadvantage?‎ A. Work hard on her study.‎ B. They were different than what she was used to.‎ B. They were cheap and of good quality.‎ C. They tasted good but were unhealthy.‎ D. They couldn’t meet students’needs.‎ ‎27. Why did the author write this text?‎ A. To share her experience abroad.‎ B. To introduce her German school.‎ C. To compare two different cultures.‎ D. To encourage people to travel to Germany.‎ C As Shah, a 33-year-old lawyer from Mumbai, India and his neighbor, 84-year-old Mathur, walked along Mumbai’s Versova Beach, they were surprised by the seemingly never-ending waste that they found. The waste was made up of clothing, plastic (塑料),glass bottles and other things. That day, they decided that the situation could no longer be ignored (忽视), and began picking up the waste piece by piece.‎ Since then, Shah returned to the beach every weekend to collect waste, and encouraged others to join him, which he called “a date with the ocean.” Instead of simply giving them calls, Shah would invite these volunteers to join him by going door to door explaining the harm that waste causes to sea life. He invited people of different backgrounds and ages to join the weekly clean-up, including local people, famous Bollywood actors, and school kids; and as each weekend went by, more volunteers would come.‎ Their work has paid off and, after 119 weeks, Versova Beach has been completely changed. The sand now can be seen and Shah estimates (估算) that more than 12,000 tons of plastic have been removed from the beach since starting.“I am a sea lover,” says Shah,” I just hope this is the beginning for coastal communities across the world.”‎ Because of the clean-up work, Olive Ridley turtles(龟) have returned to the beach for the first time in 20 years.‎ Shah continues with his work. He is also encouraging other organizations to make clean-up efforts throughout India.‎ The volunteer work around Versova Beach and the turtles' coming back has brought lots of public attention to this big problem. It’s easy to forget that it all started with two neighbors picking up a little bit of waste.‎ ‎28.What did Shah and Mathur realize during their beach walk?‎ A. The rubbish could be reused.‎ B. The rubbish could not sit there forever.‎ C. The rubbish was mainly plastic and glass.‎ D. The rubbish could be picked up quite easily.‎ ‎29. What did Shah do to other volunteers?‎ A. He often gave them calls.‎ B. He checked their backgrounds.‎ C. He paid them personal visits.‎ D. He cleaned up with them on weekdays.‎ ‎30.What is Shah's wish?‎ A. Olive Ridley turtles will return to India.‎ B. More school kids can join the beach clean-up.‎ C. Coastal communities can stop producing waste.‎ D. Beach clean-ups will start in every corner of the world.‎ ‎31. What does the underlined word“it”in the last paragraph refer to?‎ A. The sea life.‎ B. The beach walk.‎ C. The big problem.‎ D. The change at the beach.‎ D ‎“Two thousand meals packed(打包),”shouted Stephanie De La Hoz, the community engagement manager for Rise Against Hunger in Orlando,Florida. All 75 middle school volunteers cheered as they continued to package dried rice, soy, and spices.‎ That was the scene at a food packaging event at a school in Celebration, Florida. If you get tired of a particular job, you can change to another station.‎ ‎“Just getting out and laughing and working with my friends and family was really fun, ”said Bobby Spina, a middle school volunteer in Celebration.“I feel that I did a very important and nice thing today.”‎ De La Hoz noted that students often find the volunteer experience satisfying, which has helped broaden the group's reach.“When the company started 21years ago, they only packaged 1 million meals,”De La Hoz said.“But the movement has grown ever since.In2018,we packaged 80 million meals to send around the world.”‎ In addition to providing a safety net for families and individuals(个人)in need of nutritious meals, Rise Against Hunger also offers skills and services to help end poverty. Hundreds or thousands of miles' journey is actually difficult and dangerous. So why do birds migrate? 36.However, it all comes down to survival.‎ Migrating for a Meal For all birds, one of the main driving forces behind migration is food shortage. If all birds were to stay in the same warm regions all the year round, food would become lacking and producing their young would be less successful. As food resources are rich in the north each spring, millions of birds migrate there for the food supplies.37.‎ Migrating for Family Over thousands of years, birds have evolved different migration patterns, timing and destinations to fly around the world to produce their young. Birds take advantage of a wide variety of suitable conditions to raise their young.38.‎ Migrating for Climate Birds have evolved different types of feathers to survive different climates.39.So many birds leave the Arctic producing grounds, for example, when temperatures begin to fall and they need warmer habitats. Similarly, the hottest regions can be a bad environment for raising little chicks, and they will choose cooler areas to lay eggs.‎ Migrating for Predators(掠食动物)‎ Habitats that have rich food resources all the year round also attract a greater number of predators that can threaten their nests.40.It gives their young a better chance of reaching maturity. Many birds even migrate to specialized habitats that are nearly inaccessible to predators.‎ A.Birds always tend to fly to warmer places.‎ B.And changes in those climates can affect migration.‎ C.This increases the surviving chances of little chicks.‎ D.Birds have adapted themselves to their own surroundings.‎ E. There is more than one reason for different birds to migrate F. As the food supplies decrease in fall, they return to warm regions.‎ G. So birds migrate to different habitats to avoid being eaten by predators.‎ 第三部分 语言知识运用 第一节 完形填空 In the close town of Whitesburg, Kentucky, Mick Polly, who lives with his teenage daughter Carolina in a house, is known as the bike man.
