阅读理解。阅读下列短文, 从给的四个选项 (A、B、C 和 D) 中, 选出最佳选项。
I’ve spent over a year in India, and in those 365 plus days, I’ve learned a
lot about getting around Indian cities. My biggest
lessons have been learned through being cheated,
particularly by taxi and rickshaw(人力车)drivers, but
that doesn’t mean those are bad ways to travel, as long
as you know what you’re doing. Below are the best ways
to get around the city of Delhi, India, and tips for
how to keep from being the victim of scams(欺诈).
Taking taxis is a great way to get around the city of Delhi and chances are,
if you arrive in Delhi by plane, as soon as you make it through customs, you’ll
be swarmed by Indian taxi drivers. At the Delhi airport, be sure to arrange for a
taxi to your hotel at one of the two Delhi Traffic Police Taxi Booths. One is inside
the airport, and one is outside. The key is to make sure to go to a booth run by
the police, rather than by independent taxi drivers.
Rickshaws are one of my favorite ways to get around Indian cities, in part because
it’s how the locals often travel. Auto-rickshaws are more common, but bicycle
rickshaws are still used in Old Delhi. If you do have a chance to take a bicycle
rickshaw, you should do it at least once for a unique experience that should only
set you back about 15 rupees. Auto-rickshaw rates around Delhi range between 30 and
80 rupees, depending on distance.
If you really want to travel around Delhi like the locals, take a public bus.
Indian buses become very crowded and most do not have air conditioning. They are,
however, very cheap. A bus trip won’t set you back any more than 15 rupees, as long
as you stay within the city limits. Since Indian buses get so crowded, try to board
the bus at the start of the route so you can get a seat.
The train is a great way to get around within the city of Delhi. Fares are

Eating 40 percent less food could extend a person's life by 20 years, according
to scientists.
Researchers at the Institute of Health Ageing at University College London are
developing a treatment that they hope will fight the “disease” of getting older.
They are looking into how genetics (遗传学)and lifestyle can affect ageing and
add years, possibly decades, to a person's life.
Age-related diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer and neuro
degeneration can also be treated, it is claimed.
They want to find out how the life of a rat can be increased by up to 30 percent
simply by reducing its food intake.
Researcher Dr. Piper told the Independent: "If you reduce the diet of a rat by
40 percent it will live for 20 or 30 percent longer. So we would be talking 20 years
of human life. This has shown on all sorts of animals, even Labradors (a kind of
dog)." The scientists are also studying fruit flies, which share 60 percent of human
genes and age in a similar manner, and mice.
They have already made the healthy lifespan (寿命)longer in both flies and mice
by using drug treatments and a balanced diet. It is hoped that this combination will
also work to extend (延长)human life. Dr. Piper said: "If we discover the genes
involved with ageing, we should be able to delay ageing itself. This is what we've
found."
He added that the field of research into extending life is only a decade old,
so remains "in theory". It is their special approach to treating all age-related
diseases caused by the "disease" of ageing itself that sets their research apart.

At a recent visit to the beautiful Keukenhof flower gardens in Holland, I learned
about the practice of topping. As flowers grow, sometimes the growers cut off the
tops of the flowers, which they believe causes the plants to invest more energy into
flower growth and less into seed production. The expected result is flower buds that
will produce higher quality flowers.
This is the same with personal growth.Sometimes when we produce first results
in a certain area, it can be helpful to cut them off and throw them away. This can
free up energy for a stronger attempt elsewhere instead of settling into the comfort
zone of satisfaction with the old results.
After running my computer games business for 10 years and generating satisfying
results with it, I decided to drop it and leave that field behind. This freed up
my energy to focus on my personal development writing and speaking. If I'd kept
running the old business, this would have meant less energy to invest in my new path.
It can be difficult to choose the topping approach because you're taking
something that's already reasonably satisfying and cutting it out of your life, in
the hopes that something even better will grow in its place.
Do you want to settle where you are right now? If so, then topping is
unnecessary. But if you'd like to do better and believe you have a good shot at
improvement, just like the flower growers at Keukenhof, then topping is a sensible
practice. To free up time and energy for future growth in new directions, you have
to drop the merely satisfactory. This gives you a shot at the truly beautiful.
Stepping outside of your comfort zone is by definition an uncomfortable
experience, but it can yield a lot more growth than staying put.Though dropping
satisfaction to go for more growth is not an easy path to follow, I do find it to
be the more beautiful path.

A.settle where they are
B.drop the truly beautiful

"I will never many," the future Elizabeth I declared at the age of eight, age
of eight, and, to the terror of her people, the Great Queen kept her word.
For four centuries, historians have guessed why Elizabeth never married. In her
own day, her decision to remain single was considered absurd and dangerous.A queen
needed a husband to make political decisions for her and to organise and lead her
military camp4gns.More important, she needed male heirs to avoid a civil war after
her death.
There was no shortage of suitors for the Queen, both English courtiers (朝
臣) and foreign princes, and it was confidently expected for the best part of 30

years that Elizabeth would eventually marry one of them.Indeed, although she
insisted that she preferred the single state, she kept these suitors in a state of
permanent expectation. This was a deliberate policy on the Queen's part, since by
keeping foreign princes in hope, sometimes for a decade, she kept them friendly when
they might otherwise have made war on her kingdom.
There were, indeed, good political reasons for her avoiding marriage. The
disastrous union of her sister Mary I to Philip II of Spain had had an unwelcome
foreign influence upon English politics. The English were generally pr0udiced
against the Queen taking a foreign husband, particularly a Catholic one.Yet if she
married an English, jealousy might lead to the separation of the court.
There were other, deeper reasons for Elizabeth's unwillingness to marry, chief
of which, I believe, was her fear of losing her autonomy as Queen. In the 16th century,
a queen was regarded as holding supreme dominion(统治权)over the state, while a
husband was thought to hold supreme dominion over his wife.Elizabeth knew that
marriage and motherhood would bring some harm to her power.
She once pointed out that marriage seemed too uncertain a state for her. She
had seen several unions in her immediate family break down, including that of her
own parents.
Some writers, based on very fragile evidence, have argued that Elizabeth was
frightened or incapable of the sex act, but it is more likely that she feared
childbirth. Two of her stepmothers, her grandmother and several acquaintances had
died in childbed.
Elizabeth︿ father. Henry VIII, had had her mother, Anne Boleyn, killed; her
stepmother Catherine Howard later suffered the same fate. When Elizabeth was 14
she was all but attracted by Admiral Thomas Seymour, who also went to the prison
within a year. Witnessing these terrible events at an early age, it has been argued,
may have put Elizabeth off marriage.
Elizabeth had to decide her priorities. Marriage or being single? Elizabeth
was far too intelligent. The choice she made was courageous and revolutionary, and,
in the long run, the right one for England.
