And soon a group of children came into the room to salute (敬礼) him.‎ ‎“Well, well. Also people remember you because of your humour. But I think I don’t have a very good sense of humour. Could you suggest how to build on this?‎ ‎—Radha Karnik ‎ This is a great question that is unfortunately difficult to answer. I can only give you my views on this topic, which may or may not be correct. I know that my sense of humour developed over time.‎ ‎ When I was younger I was not funny at all; now I can easily make people laugh. At the same time, sometimes I say things that I think are very funny but others do not. Improving wit and humour, I believe, is an ongoing process.‎ ‎ Now, there are various forms of humour and everyone has their individual style. Overall I believe being fluent in a language is very important for being witty or funny. The way we play around with words adds the “funny” tag to an otherwise normal sentence.‎ ‎ Also, seeing irony is very important. I think humour is often the link between two unrelated things.‎ ‎ In my experience, laughing frequently and appreciating other people’s jokes and wit are very important. Within these, finding humour in everyday normal situations is the key.‎ ‎ I often notice what is going on around me and say funny things in my head and laugh to myself. That serves almost as practice for me when I am in a group. I watch comedy shows and movies and I am sure that has some effects on helping me improve my sense of humour.‎ ‎ And last, having confidence that you are witty is important. There will always be someone wittier or funnier than you, which is fine. Just work on building your own style.‎ ‎ Remember, if you are trying to be funny and witty in order to break the ice at a business function, be careful. In those situations, humour has to be mild and politically correct.‎ Yours,‎ Brad ‎28. Radha Karnik’s problem is that he doesn’t __________.‎ A. have friends B. know the functions of humour C. understand others’ humour D. have a good sense of humour ‎29. In order to improve our sense of humour, Brad believes that the followings are important EXCEPT __________.‎ A. good language ability B. loyalty ‎ C. learning from life D. confidence ‎30. Radha Karnik is warned ___________.‎ A. not to be funny improperly B. not to be funny frequently C. not to be funny naturally D. not to be funny differently 第二节(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ ‎ What makes one person more intelligent than another? What makes one person a genius, like brilliant Albert Einstein, and another person a fool? Are people born intelligent or stupid, or is intelligence the result of where and how you live? 31_________‎ ‎ We know, however, that just being born with a good mind is not enough. In some ways, the mind is like a leg or an arm muscle. 32__________Mental exercise (done with the mind) is particularly important for young children. Many child psychologists think that parents should play with their children more often and give them problems to think about. 33__________If, on the contrary, children are left alone a great deal with nothing to do, they are more likely to become dull and unintelligent.‎ ‎ 34__________According to some psychologists, if parents are always telling a child that he or she is a fool or an idiot(白痴), then the child is more likely to keep doing silly and foolish things. ‎ So it is probably better for parents to say very positive things to their children, such as "35__________"or “You are such a smart child."‎ A. In the past, employees worked eight or nine hours a day. Today, however, many companies expect their employees to work longer. In addition, the boundary between work and personal life has become less clear. If we are not working in the office, we might be working at home. We are required to be on call whenever our company needs us. In short, we are all working and having less time with family and friends.‎ This over-emphasis (过分强调) on work can lead to serious problems in our personal lives. The more time we spend at work, the less time there is available for maintaining relationships with ‎ our friends and family. Many of us spend so much time on the job that we hardly ever get to see our partners or children. When we do get home, we are often tired and lack the energy to spend time doing what we really enjoy.‎ There are, however, a number of ways in which we can regain control of our lives and correct the work-life balance. First of all, workers, especially those employed in offices, have to realize that work is rarely finished. In other words, taking work home does not usually decrease the amount of work. As one task finishes, another one appears. This means that, unless there is a strict deadline, work should stay at work.‎ Another way to regain a work-life balance is to plan your free time. Most of us spend a lot of time planning our working week. Few of us put the same effort into organizing our leisure time. However, if we don’t have a plan, there is a danger that we will miss out on the things that we really enjoy doing. So, if you like going to the cinema, make sure that you go regularly. Write it in your diary. If you enjoy having friends visit, plan a time and write that in your diary too. It’s all too easy to let your precious time slip away.‎ ‎【答案解析】‎ 听力:1—5 CCBCB 6—10 CBAAC 11-15 ABCBC 16—20 CBACB ‎ 阅读:21-23 ACD 24-27 BACA 28-30 DBA 七选五: 31-35 CAEBG 完形填空:36-40 DBADB 41-45 DBACB 46-50 CDCAC 51-55 ABACC 语篇填空:‎ ‎56. as 57. wealthy 58. was 59. which 60. was ‎ ‎61. successfully 62. Actually too much devotion to work has a negative impact on their family and social bonds. To solve this problem, employers should strike a balance between work and life by figuring out a clear boundary and scheduling their leisure time with some effort. (59 words)‎ Possible version 2:‎ A recent study has found that we employees are now working longer and harder than in the past. As a result, we have less time for our personal lives, like staying with our family and enjoying our pastimes/hobbies. However, we can strike a work-life balance by, for example, leaving unfinished work in the office, or planning our free/leisure time properly. First, something that I noticed was the fact that I had the freedom to do what I wanted. I didn’t have to consider others’ interests, which means that I spent more time in bed relaxing! Second, I can visit more local places. I got involved in a couple of local workshops. In the first one I designed a T-shirt and in the second, I made some special earrings. During these workshops I got the opportunity to talk with the locals. If I had traveled with a friend these conversations would not have happened. Traveling alone can equal some valuable conversations. Last but certainly not least, I developed my self-confidence. When traveling alone, I had no one to rely on, which pushed me out of the comfort zone. In the end, I realized everything is not so difficult after all.‎
