Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. I am honored to have a chance to talk about English study here.
·2·
I developed an interest in English at an early age due to my desire to travel around the world and learn
about different cultures. Interest is my best teacher. Each expression learned with my great affection opens
the door to meaningful stories for me. Some fascinating English movies and songs guarantee my keen
enthusiasm and cultivate my sense of the language. Additionally, I seize every opportunity to communicate
with foreigners, which advances my understanding of English countries.
In future, I will spare no effort to pursue my dream by studying English hard, such as participating in
various English activities and reading English magazines. When faced with difficulties, I will turn to
teachers for help. I believe English will not only broaden my horizons but also enrich my life. Thank you for
your listening.
Version 2
Good morning, everyone! It’s my honor to share something about my English learning experience and
future plan with you.
English has been my friend since I was seven. Initially, I learnt English with the intention of being
admitted into a key university. But now I am eager to learn about the world better and spread Chinese
culture through English because it is still the most widely-spoken language in the world. I used to think
English was difficult because I couldn’t remember the English words. Fortunately, I found a way out. By
reading English novels, I have made great progress ever since. As the old saying goes, learning is a lifelong
journey. There is no doubt that I will continue to learn English after graduation.
That’s all. Thank you for listening!
Version 3
Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, it’s my great honor to be here to share my experience of English
learning with you.
I attach great importance to English learning. As a tool of communication, English is now playing a
vital role in the world of globalization. I have a strong desire to learn English well in the hope that I can
communicate with people from all around the world freely and conveniently. I have accumulated some
experience during my ten years’ English study. I find a large vocabulary and much reading the key factors to
learning English well. However, it’s a pity that I neglected the importance of spoken English in the previous
years, so I make a decision that I will spend more time polishing my English speaking skills as soon as the
college Entrance examination ends.
That’s all. Thank you for your listening and I do welcome your stories of English learning.

Text 1
M: Darling, do you have any idea about our summer trip?
W: Um, a moment, after the program. You see, the kids are talking about their school life, their worries and
problems, which may help us better understand our daughter.
Text 2
W: Mike, this is the first time we have been invited to a Chinese dinner party. So please mind your table
manners!
Don’t make noises when having dinner. Don’t speak too much at the table. Don’t…
M: Mum, I’ve been tired of such don’ts.
Text 3
M: I’d like 3 T-shirts of this kind.
W: Thank you, sir. 15 dollars for one shirt. But today we have a special offer: buy two and get one free.
Text 4
W: Oh, my! The electricity goes off. Why? Haven’t we paid the power bill?
M: Nothing serious, darling! I’ve agreed to take part in the activity of Earth hour and turned off the lights by
myself. It’s aimed to save energy and improve the climate.
Text 5
M: Come on, Helen! You’ve been at desk for almost a whole day! Let’s go out for a walk or have dinner.
W: How I wish I could! But I’ve got a report due tomorrow.
Text 6
M: I heard the news on the radio that there was a hurricane in Florida yesterday.
W: Oh, really? Were there any deaths?
·5·
M: Yes, it was reported that 20 people were killed, including 4 children. And a lot of people lost their homes.
The police and medical groups have been sent there. And the government calls on everyone to help
them.
W: What should we do?
M: My classmates are going to hold a charity party to collect money for them.
W: Cool! Please let me join in.
Text 7
W: Hey, look! What’s that floating on the water?
M: Let’s row over to have a look.
W: Gosh! A plastic bag with rubbish in it. Some people just throw their rubbish wherever they go.
M: That’s too bad. Well, let’s get close to it and pick it up. OK! Got it!
W: Is there anything we can do to protect the lake? Put up a sign saying “No litter”?
M: See? There it is. It’s useless. Well, how about setting up a website to present the situation and call on the
people to behave well?
W: Mm, sounds good!
Text 8
M: Hello, Miss. I’m Sam, a journalist from the paper Campus Weekly. Now I’m working on a report on
Difficulties living in the UK. May I ask you some questions?
W: Sure!
M: What’s your name? And how long have you been in the UK?
W: I’m Li Jie from China. I have been here for 5 years by January of 2019.
M: Wow, pretty long. So do you think you can handle everything in your daily life?
W: No, not really. I sometimes feel puzzled when talking with the natives.
M: Would you share some examples?
W: Err, for example: my friends told me “there’s fat chance of losing weight with British food”. Gosh!
What on earth will I be like, losing weight or gaining weight? I was confused. Then they laughed and
told me “fat chance” means “unlikely to happen”.
M: Yes. The idiom is always a headache to most International students.
Text 9
W: Hello. This is the emergency 911 operator.
M: Help. Help. Please help me!
W: Yes sir. Please calm down and explain exactly what is happening.
M: My car is broken on the highway, but I have a lady passenger. She is screaming and going to give birth
to a baby.
W: Now relax sir. Explain exactly where you are.
·6·
M: I’m ... I’m in the southbound lane of the Lincoln Highway, about 15 miles from the Washington Tunnel,
and this lady isn’t going to wait.
W: Okay. What’s your name sir and your passenger’s?
M: It’s... it’s Bob White, and I have no idea about the woman. She’s in no condition to tell me.
W: Okay, now what’s the nearest landmark to your location? Pay careful attention.
M: Umm, I see golden arches... McDonald’s.
W: Okay, is there anyone else with you?
M: No, and I’ve tried to get someone else to stop.
W: I’ve just sent an ambulance to your location. They should be there any second.
M: Hey, is there anything I can do while we wait for the ambulance?
W: Yes, uh, keep her calm and warm.
M: Okay. Please hurry.

W Hello, everyone. My name is Joy, a club founder of my school. Now I’d like to talk about my story.
I founded a student club named “Green Planet” in 2015 inspired by Chai Jing’s documentary Under the
Dome. Everyday we club members broadcast weather reports and PM 2.5 levels. Meanwhile, my club also
shares suggestions on how to live a low carbon life on the school board, for example: take public
transportation or carpool to school; do less shopping and so on.
At first I was laughed at for being crazy, but I insisted, and then published articles and pictures of the
serious pollution of the city on the school website. Luckily, I persuaded my headmaster and friends to join.
Since then, we’ve worked together to promote our club. And up to now, 85% of the students have joined us
and enjoyed the simple but eco-friendly life.
Such is Joy, a responsible and persistent girl. Please choose me to be your student. Thank you!
