高三强化训练一
第Ⅰ卷
第一部分 阅读理解 (共两节,满分40分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。
A
When I was 12, I got a part-time job on a dairy farm, milking cows. We milked 65 cows twice a day. One day, I complained to my father about having to milk those cows, saying it was tiring. He said, “you know, boy, to work is a blessing.” I looked at the men who’d worked harder. I had a feeling I had been told something really important, but it took many years before it sunk in.
Back then, going to college was a rare privilege. My father told me if I’d picked something to study that I liked doing, I’d always look forward to my work. But he also added, even having a job you hate is better than not having a job at all. I wanted to be a farmer, but I joined a military program to help pay for college. And what started out as an obligation to the Army became a way of life that I stayed committed to for 37 years.
In the late 1980s, during a visit to Bangladesh, I saw a woman with her baby on her back, breaking bricks with a hammer. I asked a local officer why they weren’t using a machine to make the work easier. He told me a machine would put that lady out of work. And as bad as that woman’s job was, it was enough to keep a small family alive. It reminded me of my father’s words: to work is a blessing.
After seeing a lot of people like that woman in Bangladesh, I’ve come to believe that people without jobs are not free. They’re victims of crime, poor health, and depression. People who have jobs can have a home, send their kids to school, develop a sense of pride, contribute to the good of the community and even help others. When we can work, we are free. We are blessed.

Which tablet computer should YOU be buying? They are this year’s must… and there’s a style to suit everyone.
Best for Young Children
LeapPad Explorer 2, £68
Aimed at children between three and nine (though a nine-year-old might find it a little simple), it comes in pink or blue and with five built-in education games (you can buy more). Besides, the LeapPad does not allow access to the Internet — so it is impossible for your child to stumble across anything inappropriate.
Pros: The education games are well-designed and the built-in video camera is a fun way to play at being a film director.
Cons: Some of the games are shockingly expensive. And the power adaptor is not included.
Best for Teenagers
iPad 4th generation, £399~£659
The iPad is still the market leader, and for good reason. If the teenager in your house enjoys playing computer games, the latest offering from Apple is the one to choose.
Pros: No other tablets can compete with the near one million “app” (the name Apple created for specially-designed downloadable programs) available for the iPad. Simple to use, even for those who usually struggle with technology.
Cons: Considerable more expensive than most competitors.
Best for Working Parents
Microsoft Surface, £399~£559
Tablets are brilliant for leisure — but what if you want to do a bit of work? No tablet can yet compete with a full-size laptop computer, but this is the only tablet that allows you to use Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint (they are all pre-installed and included in the price) and you can buy a pretty lovely mini-keyboard for typing letters and emails, which also doubles up as the cover.
Pros: The Surface is good for watching movies — a bonus when stuck in the airport on a business trip — and surfing the Internet.
Cons: The keyboard is an expensive add-on — costing up to£109. It might be
Best for Bookworms
Amazon Kindle Paperwhite, £109
Nearly all tablets let you download books. It’s a great way to take a mountainous pile of hardbacks on holiday without stuffing your suitcase.
But most tablets have a shiny screen — which can be very distracting when you’re trying to read. The Paperwhite is different: its matt screen and crisp black lettering imitate the look of words on paper brilliantly. And yet you can still read the words in the dark.
Pros: Easy on the eye, excellent battery life, 180,000 free books (if you subscribe to the Amazon Prime customer loyalty service) plus hundreds of thousands more to buy.
Cons: No TV, films, games, the
cheaper to buy a laptop (though a tablet is much smaller and lighter).

The TV program, A Bite of China, featuring delicious Chinese food, has attracted countless viewers, and moved many to tears.
A Bite of China is a serious documentary providing a unique view of Chinese as well as the relations between people and food and between people and society from the view of food. The touching documentary reminds some people of their mother, and makes some realize that every grain comes from hard and laborious work. Some people see patriotism (爱国精神) in the documentary, and some consider it a great cultural export.
How did this documentary achieve a great influence beyond its subject matter in such a short time?
“It is not empty propaganda (宣传) about China’s splendid food culture. Instead, it shows the techniques used in making food and their production process as well as the lives of ordinary people, thus striking a chord (共鸣) with the audience,” an Internet user said. The success of the documentary should be attributed to sincerity and reality. Nowadays, many works of art that have high investment, high technology, and magnificent scenes lack nothing but sincerity and reality.
A Bite of China shows that a commercial documentary promoting patriotism can be full of touching details, that the emotions of ordinary Chinese people should be exhibited even in publicizing China overseas, and that even a completely commercial program can achieve both artistic and commercial success.
“We made this documentary with our respect and love for food,” said director Chen Xiaoqing. Being sincere is the most important thing for artists because they cannot move others unless they themselves are first moved, and cannot convince others unless they themselves are first convinced. Sincerity is the “secret” for making this documentary so popular, and every cultural creator should learn from its success.
8. The underlined words “be attributed to” in paragraph 4 can be replaced by .
A.be caused by B. contribute to C. be devoted to D. result in
9. What can you mainly find in A Bite of China?
A. Relations between people and food. B. Real lives of all Chinese people.
C. Patriotic stories of Chinese people. D. Process of preparing food.
10. What can we infer from the passage?
A. The documentary is so successful that no one can surpass it.
B. Different people can get different messages from the documentary.
C. The documentary should have shown China’s splendid food culture.
D. Many art works fail to reflect reality and high technology.
11. What is the main idea of the last paragraph?
A. Director’s respect and love for food. B. The secret of the documentary’s success.
C. The influence of the documentary. D. The popularity of the documentary.

When Shakespeare was twenty-one, he went to London to try his fortune in that great city, and a very interesting place was the London of his day.
There was the famous London Bridge and St. Paul’s Cathedral, and palaces and markets and long streets full of shops.
Then, too, there were the daily crowds where could be seen people from all over the world. Knights, scholars and the highwayman (拦路强盗)or thief, who had been infamous for his clever robberies, passed by each other.
Here, also, were noblemen dressed in gold, from Italy and Spain and France; slaves from Spanish America, sea captains and ministers, soldiers and servants — all held by chance or interest within the gray walls which circled London, and whose gates gave welcome to as strange a crowd as could be found in the world.
Into this curious crowd came Shakespeare, quick to see and eager to learn. And before long all these strange sights were as familiar to him as the faces of his own town’s residents. Each one told its story to him so plainly that, as before he had learned the secrets of the fields and woods, so now he learned men and men’s interests that make up the great world.
And he learned these lessons so well that when he came to write his plays, he made such use of them as no writer ever made before or since; for it is the use of this knowledge of the world, combined with his own genius, that makes Shakespeare the greatest dramatist that has ever lived.
12. What was London like in Shakespeare’s eyes when he first went there?
A. Dirty and small. B. Infamous and terrible.
C. Strange and interesting. D. Familiar and modern.
13. Which of the following best describes Shakespeare?
A. Shakespeare got inspiration to write from his hometown, London.
B. Shakespeare was eager to make friends with the noblemen in London.
C. Shakespeare became the greatest dramatist owing to his own genius.
D. Shakespeare was good at observing and learning from the daily life.
14. What does the word “one” in paragraph 5 refer to?
A. Sight. B. Crowd C. Face. D.Resident
15. What will be talked about in the following paragraph?
A. How Shakespeare became familiar with the best plays of the day.
B. How Shakespeare applied what he’d learned to his writing.
C. How Shakespeare spent his childhood and boyhood.
D. How Shakespeare combined his experience with London

Animation means making things which are lifeless come alive and move.

One possible version:
Nearly every body regards failure as a bad thing. The efforts we have made seem to be in vain and we feel disappointed and discouraged. Failure may make some people lose the courage to start again and even lose interest in life.
But failure is not merely a bad thing. It can benefit us. It teaches us a good lesson and makes us experienced. By analyzing the causes of failure, we can realize our own shortcomings and get better understanding of ourselves. So, when we start again, we may succeed more easily.
Therefore, failure not only disappoints us but also benefits us. When we fail, we should make use of our failure and learn from out experience. Only in this way can we turn failure into success after we start our work again.
