The chairman of Alibaba Group Holding Ltd stepped down on Teachers’ Day from leading the e-commerce giant he founded 20 years ago.‎ ‎ “I still have lots of dreams to go after,” Ma wrote in an open letter last year to announce his parting. “The world is big, and I am still young, so I want to try new things.”‎ ‎ The 55-year-old businessman showed that he was ready for new things by arriving at his farewell party (欢送会) dressed up like a rock star.‎ ‎ In fact, his rags-to-riches (白手起家的) story is a good example of doing something different. Visiting the United States in 1995, Ma saw the internet and had the idea of setting up his own trading website. In 1999, he founded Alibaba with a group of friends in a shared apartment, struggling for years to get it off the ground. With all the challenges, the company slowly brought e-commerce to China.‎ ‎ Although his success has inspired (激励) a number of Chinese tech businessmen, Ma pointed out that the key is having a dream. “It’s the dreams that keep us never afraid of setbacks (挫折),” Ma said in a video posted on Sept 9.‎ ‎ Now the experienced businessman is looking to focus on education. What can he offer?‎ ‎ “I’m not going to teach English; I’m not going to teach business. But I’m going to teach young people how to face challenges,” he told Bloomberg News.‎ ‎ Skilled sailors were never made on calm waters. As Ma said, “Today is cruel. Tomorrow is crueler. But the day after tomorrow is beautiful.”‎ ‎24. What did Jack Ma announce on Teachers’ Day?‎ A. His plan to return to teaching. B. His plan to enlarge his online business.‎ C. His dream of becoming a rock star. D. His retirement from Alibaba. ‎ ‎25. What does Paragraph 4 mainly talk about?‎ A. The important role of Alibaba. B. How Ma inspires others to do something different. ‎ C. How Ma got the idea for his business. D. Difficulties Ma went through to found Alibaba.‎ ‎26. What does Ma think dreams mean to us?‎ A. Dreams can give us confidence and courage. B. Dreams can guide us to further our education. C. Dreams can push us to set up new businesses. D. Dreams can lead us to offer more to society.‎ ‎27. What does the underlined sentence in the last paragraph mean?‎ A. Practice makes perfect. B. Confidence is the key to success.‎ C. Good conditions can help people grow and learn. D. Challenges allow us to develop new abilities.‎ C Your house may have an effect on your figure. Experts say the way you design your home could play a role in whether you pack on the pounds or keep them off. You can make your environment work for you instead of against you. Here are some ways to turn your home into part of your diet plan. ‎ Open the curtains and turn up the lights. Dark environments are more likely to encourage overeating, for people are often less self-conscious(难为情)when they’re in poorly lit places—and so more likely to eat lots of food. If your home doesn’t have enough window light, get more lamps and flood the place with brightness.‎ Mind the colors. Research suggests warm colors fuel our appetites. In one study, people who ate meals in a blue room consumed 33 percent less than those in a yellow or red room. Warm colors like yellow make food appear more appetizing, while cold colors make us feel less hungry. So when it’s time to repaint, go blue.‎ Don’t forget the clock—or the radio. People who eat slowly tend to consume about 70 fewer calories(卡路里)per meal than those who rush through their meals. Begin keeping track of the time, and try to make dinner last at least 30 minutes. And while you’re at it, actually sit down to eat. If you need some help slowing down, turn on relaxing music. It makes you less likely to rush through a meal.‎ Downsize the dishes. Big serving bowls and plates can easily make us fat. We eat about 22 percent more when using a 12-inch plate instead of a 10-inch plate. When we choose a large spoon over a smaller one, total intake(摄入)jumps by 14 percent. And we’ll pour about 30 percent more liquid into a short, wide glass than a tall, skinny glass.‎ ‎28.The text is especially helpful for those who care about__________ .‎ A. their home comforts B. their body shape C. house buying D. healthy diets ‎ ‎29. A home environment in blue can help people ___________.‎ A. digest food better B. burn more calories C. regain their appetites D. reduce food intake ‎ ‎30. What are people advised to do at mealtimes?‎ A. Use smaller spoons. B. Play fast music. C. Eat quickly. D. Turn down the lights.‎ ‎31. What can be a suitable title for the text?‎ A. Effects of Self-Consciousness B. Is Your House Making You Fat?‎ C. Ways of Serving Dinner D. Is Your Home Environment Relaxing? ‎ D Chinese students always complain that they’re under great pressure and don’t get enough sleep. But they may be surprised to learn that they’re much luckier than their peers (同龄人) in South Korea and Japan, according to a recently published report, conducted by Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences on the physical and mental health of senior high school students in the three Asian countries.‎ According to the study among nearly 6,000 high school students in the three countries, Chinese students are the tallest but poorest in physical fitness. Chinese students are on average ‎168.17cm, compared with ‎167.61cm for South Korean students and ‎164.70cm for Japanese students. Chinese students asked for sick leave more than students in other countries. About 72 percent of Korean students never asked for sick and injury leave during high school, compared to 53 percent for Japanese students and 45 percent for Chinese students. Moreover, Chinese students drink alcohol and smoke earlier than Korean and Japanese students. Around 70 percent of Chinese students have drunk alcohol, compared to 50 percent for Korean and Japanese students.‎ According to the survey, Japanese and South Korean students suffer more pressure than their Chinese peers. Statistics show 16 percent of students in China said they experienced mental pressure often over the past year, while the numbers in Japan and South Korea were 33 percent and 47 percent respectively. Their worries come from “study”, “future after graduation”, “friendships” and “relationship with their parents”. To go with stress, 57.9 percent of Korean students sleep the least,‎ ‎ less than six hours a day, compared with 46.6 percent of Japanese students and 30 percent of Chinese students.‎ More Chinese students were satisfied with their physical appearance, double that of students in the survey from Japan and South Korea. The report said that over half of students in South Korea had tried to lose weight in the past year, while in China the figure was only 22 percent. In measures of self-worth, such as “I think I am valuable” and “I think I am successful”, “I can complete many things”, “I won’t give up to failure,” Chinese students showed greater self-confidence than students in Japan and South Korea.‎ ‎32. What’s the main idea of the second paragraph?‎ A. Chinese students ask for sick leave most often.‎ B. Chinese students drink most alcohol and smoke earliest.‎ C. Japanese students ask for least sick leave.‎ D. Chinese teenagers are tallest, but most unhealthy.‎ ‎33. It can be inferred from the passage that _________.‎ A. The rules of gift-giving vary quite a lot, and not knowing them can result in great embarrassment . In North America, the rules are fairly simple. If you’re invited to someone’s home for dinner, bring wine or flowers or a small item from your country. Among friends and family, we generally don’t give gifts on other occasions except on someone’s birthday and Christmas. The Japanese, on the other hand, give gifts quite often, often to thank someone such as a teacher or a doctor for their kindness. In Japanese culture, as in many other cultures in Asia, the tradition of gift-giving is very ancient. There are many detailed rules for everything from the color of the wrapping paper to the time of the gift presentation. Middle Easterners are also generous gift givers, both in social and business situations. And while Europeans don’t generally exchange business gifts, they do follow some formal customs when visiting homes, such as bringing flowers. The type and color of flowers, however, can carry special meaning, depending on which European country we are talking about.‎
