On an education website B The latest study by the University of Florida has found that eating from smaller, less beautiful, and even paper plates will help prevent overeating. Eating with a fork instead of a spoon can help you lose weight, the researchers say. Much to their surprise, they find that putting mirrors in the ‎ dining room will also help reduce weight.‎ The researchers asked 185 college students to choose a chocolate cake or a fruit salad, and evaluated the taste. Those who ate in a room with a mirror scored the taste of junk food much lower than those in a room without a mirror. But the taste of fruit salad remained the same in any case.‎ Lead scientist, Dr. Ata Jami, says that a glance in the mirror tells people more than just about their physical appearance. It enables them to view themselves objectively and helps them to judge themselves and their behavior in the same way that they judge other people.‎ The mirrors were found to push people to compare and match their own behavior with accepted social standards. The researchers believe it proves that people don’t want to look in the mirror when they feel they are following the social standards. When they look in the mirror with mouths full of junk food, feelings of discomfort and failure can be increased. Therefore, the presence of the mirror lowers the taste of unhealthy food.‎ However, researchers say this is only the case if people select the food they are eating, because they are responsible for that choice. The researchers suggest that mirrors be placed in dining rooms and other eating spaces, so that people will start eating more healthily.‎ ‎24. Researchers are amazed to find that ______.‎ A. paper plates make food look nicer B. people using a fork will eat more C. mirrors can help people lose weight D. people will eat more in front of a mirror ‎25. What can be inferred from the study?‎ A. Some teenagers got involved in it.‎ B. People were required to eat with a spoon.‎ C. People preferred a chocolate cake to a fruit salad.‎ D. The mirror may not affect the taste of healthy food.‎ ‎26. According to Dr. Ata Jami, the mirror ______.‎ A. makes people judge others correctly B. makes people well judge themselves C. is a necessary part of people’s daily life D. can only show the appearance of a person ‎27. How does the mirror affect the taste of junk food?‎ A. By making people hungry.‎ B. By showing the social standards.‎ C. By attracting people to healthy food.‎ D. By causing a feeling of discomfort.‎ ‎ C People aren’t walking any more—if they can figure out a way to avoid it.‎ I felt superior about this matter until the other day I took my car to mail a small parcel. The journey is a matter of 281 steps. But I used the car. And I wasn’t in any hurry, either, I had merely become one more victim of a national sickness: motorosis.‎ It is an illness to which I had thought myself immune(免疫的), for I was raised in the tradition of going to places on my own two legs. At that time, we regarded 25 miles as good day’s walk and the ability to cover such a distance in ten hours as sign of strength and skill. It did not occur to us that walking was a hardship. And the effect was lasting. When I was 45 years old I raced—and beat—a teenage football player the ‎168 steps up the Statue of Liberty.‎ Such enterprises today are regarded by many middle-aged persons as bad for the heart. But a well-known British physician, Sir Adolphe Abrhams, pointed out recently that hearts and bodies need proper exercises. A person who avoids exercise is more likely to have illnesses than one who exercises regularly. And walking is an ideal form of exercise—the most familiar and natural of all.‎ It was Henry Thoreau who showed mankind the richness of going on foot. The man walking can learn the trees, flower, insects, birds and animals, the significance of seasons, the very feel of himself as a living creature in a living world. He cannot learn in a car.‎ The car is a convenient means of transport, but we have made it our way of life. Many people don’t dare to approach Nature any more; to them the world they were born to enjoy is all threat. To them security is a steel river thundering on a concrete road. And much of their thinking takes place while waiting for the traffic light to turn green.‎ I say that the green of forests is the mind’s best light. And none but the man on foot can ‎ evaluate what is basic and everlasting.‎ ‎28. What is the national sickness?‎ A. Driving cars too much. ‎ B. Travelling too much.‎ C. Walking too much. ‎ D. Climbing stairs too much.‎ ‎29. What was life like when the author was young?‎ A. People used to climb the Statue of Liberty.‎ B. People often walked 25 miles a day. ‎ C. People usually went around on foot.‎ D. People considered a ten-hour walk as a hardship.‎ ‎30. The author mentions Henry Thoreau to prove that .‎ A. walking in nature helps enrich one’s mind B. middle-aged people like getting back to nature C. people need regular exercise to keep fit D. going on foot prevents heart disease ‎31. What's the author's attitude to walking?‎ A. Negative. B. Doubtful. C. Cautious. D. Positive.‎ D How long has 3-D technology been around? Most of us might think of crowds of teenagers in a 1950’s movie house watching Bwana Devil in 3-D. But 3-D technology made its first appearance on the scene in 1838 with the first stereoscope(体视镜). And the first actual 3-D movie was a 1903 film called Le Ariveed’un Train.‎ Although it has such a long history, the technology has still remained based on one simple principle-----to make 3-D effects you must find a way to project two slightly different pictures to each eye. Modern 3-D technology works by rapidly flickering(闪动) two versions of the movie and projecting them onto each eye. The brain does the rest of the work, combining the two pictures together into one and giving the show the appearance of depth, the third dimension.‎ But does this exposure, especially long exposures, cause harm to the child’s developing brain ‎ and visual system? Unfortunately, long-term studies on new flicker digital 3-D technology and children aren’t yet available. We do not know if regular or daily 3-D viewing over years affects the developing visual system, although older 3-D methods basically do the same thing and are not considered harmful.‎ The question of possible harm in modern 3-D use in TV is really based on two facts: the amount of time children will now be watching 3-D TV each day and the sensitivity some children show in reaction to 3-D viewing. It is difficult to make actual lab studies of longer term 3-D viewing in children because of the possible harm of the experiment. Researchers will have to wait until 3-D TV technology is already in the marketplace for a number of years, then check heavy 3-D TV watchers and compare them with non-watchers.‎ With a 3-D television technology in the home, we will soon be able to answer the question of whether or not longer and more frequent periods of 3-D exposure cause more changes in the visual system. We may find that the bigger problem is the introduction of a new technology that leads to even more time spent on TV rather than playing outdoors.‎ ‎32、According to the text, 3-D technology ______‎ A.was refused by people when it first appeared.‎ B.will soon change the way we watch TV.‎ C.does no good to our visual system.‎ D.has a history of nearly 200 years.‎ ‎33、Paragraph 2 is mainly about________‎ A.how 3-D technology works. B.why 3-D movies are popular C.the history of 3-D technology. D.the influence of 3-D technology.‎ ‎34、What’s the method suggested in paragraph 4?‎ A.To wait and see B.To carry out lab studies C.To stop making 3-D movies D.To improve 3-D technology ‎35、The author’s purpose in writing the text is to _______‎ A.ask children not to watch 3-D movies B.discuss if 3-D viewing is harmful to children.‎ C.introduce the advantages of 3-D technology.‎ D.predict the development of 3-D technology.‎ 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。‎ Why should you read every day?‎ When was the last time you read a book?
