Although time and experience are the best teachers, we also suffer from experiences such as our sacrifices, suffering and the hardships. Good judgment develops only when we truly learn from our mistakes. However, many people keep repeating the same mistakes before learning their lessons because as they say, they are just humans who are subject to making mistakes.‎ Our weaknesses in life can be turned into our strengths if we immediately acknowledge and recognize the tact that we mess up and learn from them. Our good or bad experiences help us learn better judgment in life. Yet, too many people are in denial and place the blame on others without realizing that the minute they take responsibility for their action is when the learning process begins. Apart from learning from our own experience, we can also learn valuable lessons from the experience of others. It allows us to observe our behavior from another angle. When we recognize our mistakes and prevent them from happening again, we are, therefore, learning.‎ Quickly identifying our mistakes and changing behavior accordingly requires less time and energy than denying mistakes. However, acknowledgement of mistakes requires belief in the idea that the perfection is not possible.‎ It is easier to analyze our mistakes especially when we talk to others, which can help people to sort out comments or criticisms after a mistake is made. Despite our tendency to avoid mistakes, timely acknowledgement is one of the best ways to prevent them from repeating.‎ ‎24. What should we keep in mind to admit our mistakes?‎ A. Mistakes are great teacher.‎ B. Behind bad luck comes good luck.‎ C. Every man has his faults.‎ D. As you make your bed, so you must lie in it.‎ ‎25. According to the author, how should we avoid repeating mistakes?‎ A. Have a timely talk with others for advice.‎ B. Admit the existence of mistakes in time.‎ C. Think twice before acting.‎ D. Learn carefully from others’ comments.‎ ‎26. What does learning from the experience of others help us do?‎ A. Realize that mistakes are part of life,‎ B. Recognize the results of mistakes.‎ C. Learn better judgment in life.‎ D. Re-evaluate our behavior differently.‎ ‎27. What does the author intend to convey the most?‎ A. Learn wisdom from our mistakes.‎ B. Learn from others to see our mistakes.‎ C. Stop being ashamed of making mistakes.‎ D. Never be afraid of making mistakes.‎ C Shoppers in the UK are spending less money on toilet paper to save money, research has shown.‎ Penny saving UK consumers choose cheaper products from discounters such as Aldi and Lidi rather than expensive alternatives.‎ This has wiped 6% off the value of the soft tissue paper market in the UK. It has reduced from £1.19 billion in 2011 to £1.12 billion in 2015, according to a new report from market research company Mintel. Furthermore, the future of the market looks far from positive, with sales expected to fall further to £1.11 billion in 2016.‎ In the last year alone, despite an increase in the UK population and a rise in the number of households, sales of toilet paper fell by 2%, with the average household reducing their toilet roll spending from £43 in 2014 to £41 in 2015.‎ Overall, almost three in five people say they try to limit their usage of paper – including facial tissue and kitchen roll to save money. “Strength, softness and thickness remain the leading signs of toilet paper quality, with just a small part of consumers preferring more expensive alternatives, such as those with flower patterns or perfume,” said analyst Jack Duckett. “These extra features are considered unnecessary by the majority of shoppers, which probably reflects how these types of products are typically more expensive than regular toilet paper, even when on special offer.”‎ While consumers are spending less on toilet paper, they remain particular about it when it comes to paper quality. One in 10 buyers rank toilet rolls made from recycled paper among their top considerations, clearly showing how overall the ‎ environment is much less of a consideration for shoppers than product quality. In a challenge for makers, 81% of paper product users said they would consider buying recycled toilet tissue if it were comparable in quality to standard paper.‎ ‎28. The market sales of toilet paper have decreased because ________.‎ A. its quality has seen marked improvement B. Britons have developed the habit of saving C. its prices have gone up over the year D. Britons have cut their spending on it ‎29. What does the author think of the future of the tissue paper market in the UK?‎ A. It will expand in time.‎ B. It will experience ups and downs.‎ C. It will remain disappointing.‎ D. It will recover as population grows.‎ ‎30. What does Jack Duckett say about toilet paper?‎ A. Consumers are loyal to certain brands.‎ B. Extra features add much to the price.‎ C. Special offers would promote its sales.‎ D. Consumers have a variety to choose from.‎ ‎31. What can we infer from the last paragraph?‎ A. Environmental protection is not much of a concern when Britons buy toilet paper.‎ B. More and more Britons buy recycled toilet paper to protect the environment.‎ C. Toilet paper manufacturers are facing a great challenge in promoting its sales.‎ D. Toilet paper manufacturers compete with one another to improve.‎ D Several months ago, I attended the opening event for a new children’s literacy (读写能力) campaign at the Burbank Library in California. The campaign is called Marvel Comics Close- Up, aimed at using comic books to encourage kids to read. Disney and Marvel donated 210,000 books to libraries and schools across the country.‎ Stars from Disney XD participated. They read Spider-Man comic books to 70 kids from Boys & Girls Clubs in southern California. The stars included Drake Bell (Ultimate Spider-Man), Dylan Riley Snyder (Kickin’ it), Olivia Holt (Kickin’ It) and Coie Jenson (Crash & Bernstein).‎ Drake Bell said that the Marvel reading campaign is aimed at kids who are bored with books, believing comic books are the answer for kids who say they’d rather play video games. “Comic books really get you into the story,” he told TFK(Time For Kids). “They are not just words or pictures on a page.”‎ Dylan Riley Snyder knows from liis experiences that comic books have the power to inspire kids' imagination. His mom was a teacher and she used comic books to interest students who thought they weren't interested in reading. Dylan attended these classes. He would read the comic books and draw the characters along with the students. “It was a great way for these kids to start to enjoy reading,” Dylan said. “That’s how I got interested in reading too. Now I can share my love for comic books with others through the Marvel Comics Close-Up program.”‎ David Levine is the Vice President of Disney XD Worldwide. He said great stories and great characters, like Spider-Man and The Avengers, were key to making reading fun. “Reading can encourage you to explore new things and take you to all sorts of exciting places,” he told TFK.‎ ‎32. What is the main purpose of the Marvel reading campaign?‎ A. To encourage students to use the library.‎ B. To excite children’s interest in reading.‎ C. To introduce some new comic books.‎ D. To donate books to libraries and schools.‎ ‎33. By saying “They are not just words or pictures on a page,” in Paragraph 3, Drake Bell means A. there are colorful pictures in most comic books B. common books with only words are bad for kids C. comic books are much better than common books D. comic books make kids imaginative and interested ‎34. Who stressed the benefit of reading?‎ A. David Levine. B. Drake Bell. C. Dylan Riley Snyder. D. Olivia Holt.‎ ‎35. Which of the following is the best title for the text?‎ A. In the West, for instance, consumerism, the belief that it’s good to use a lot of goods and services, is often to blame for food waste. 38 Chinese people are well known for being hospitable and generous. Many even feel that they lose face if their guests have eaten all the food. On campus, a generation of single children is less aware of the food waste issue. Students nowadays are well protected by their families and hardly have any concept of how much toil others go through in order to provide them with the food they eat.‎ ‎ 39 There are 925 million hungry people in the world. They don’t have enough food to eat. And farmers work very hard to grow the crops. 40 It’s also important that everyone thinks about how they can do their bit to reduce food waste. Recently a campaign against food waste launched on line in China might make you think twice about being so wasteful.‎ A. Students waste is extremely serious,‎ B. To reduce food waste is a big task, and it needs time.‎ C. China, in turn, features its own eating culture.‎ D. But canteen waste is merely the tip of the iceberg.‎ E. So we shouldn’t waste our food.‎ F. Students can never realize the serious food waste situation.‎ G.
