Two weeks after I got my license, I we had exams at school and on the Monday I decided not to drive because I was tired from studying.‎ We had the same driver. All the kids got on well with each other. That afternoon I was sitting by the window next to a 13- year old girl who was telling me about her day, when there was a loud dull sound. I looked up to see the younger children standing and looking down towards the front of the bus. Our driver wasn't at the wheel.‎ It was around 3 PM, so there was a lot of traffic and we were at a busy intersection. The girl I was sitting with jumped up and said, “ You just got your license—you have to go for a drive.” I replied, “What? My driving licence isn't to drive a bus!” But she said, “You've got to go”. ‎ We’d been stationary at a red light but the bus started to move slowly, at around 5 mph, on its own. Everything went into slow motion. I headed to the front and yelled for someone to call the police. The driver had fallen from his seat and his feet had come off the pedals. He was on the ground, shaking. His whole body was blocking the front of the bus. I couldn't reach the brakes or sit down. I instantly went into problem solving way.‎ Then I saw a car coming towards us—we were in the middle of the intersection and had started drifting into the opposite lane. I leaned over the driver and grabbed the lake wheel, then I steered us through the intersection to the side of the road. I pulled the massive emergency brake, hoping it would stop the bus, and it did. Our head teacher and an ambulance arrived within five minutes. The driver had had a heart attack; he was sent to hospital immediately.‎ 21. Why didn't the author drive her car to school that day?‎ A. She disliked driving her car on Mondays.‎ B. It puts a special burn on sunsets and makes night air smell better.” Indeed, in the eyes of artists, loneliness never seems to go out of style. There are paintings that show loneliness, songs that inspired by loneliness, and many works of literature that center around this theme.‎ In the eyes of UK economist Rachel Reeves, however, loneliness is far from romantic. Instead, it’s a “giant evil” that’s become a serious problem in the country.‎ So just how serious is it? On Jan 17, UK Prime Minister Theresa May appointed politician Tracey Crouch as the country’s very first “Minister for Loneliness”. Her job is to deal with the loneliness that the country’s been feeling—a problem which, according to UK government research, is affecting more than 9 million people in the country, and is more harmful to one’s physical and mental health than smoking 15 cigarettes a day.‎ And the problem hasn’t just appeared recently. Back in 2014, the UK was given the title of the “loneliness capital of Europe” by The Telegraph. A survey carried out by the newspaper found that British people were less likely to get to know their ‎ neighbors or build strong relationships with people than those from other European countries.‎ But this doesn’t mean that the problem only affects Britons. In fact, we’re all suffering from loneliness now more than ever, although most of the world now having access to the internet, which has enabled us to be more connected than ever.‎ What we need, according to Kim Leadbetter, sister of the late UK politician Jo Cox, is to have “proper human connections”.‎ ‎“Our lives nowadays are so busy. We spend the vast majority of our time on our phones, on our laptops. We need to press pause on that and actually sit down and speak to human beings,” Leadbetter said at an event last year.‎ But the first steps towards fighting this problem are to accept its existence and not be ashamed or intimidated (吓倒) by it. After all, without loneliness, many beautiful paintings, songs and literary works wouldn’t even be there. And “evil” or not, being lonely is simply part of the experience of being human.‎ 24. What’s the main idea of paragraph 3 to 4?‎ A. How serious the problem of loneliness is in Britain.‎ B. More than 9 million British people suffer from loneliness.‎ C. The UK became the loneliest country in the Europe in 2014‎ D. British people communicate less than those from other countries.‎ 25. According to the text, social loneliness ______.‎ A. has become a problem worldwide B. does more harm mentally than physically C. didn’t attract the public attention until recently D. is mainly caused by the wide use of the internet 26. Which of the following would the author probably agree with?‎ A. Loneliness is just a normal part of our life.‎ B. It is hard to find a solution to social loneliness. ‎ C. Only artists can appreciate the beauty of loneliness.‎ D. Spending more time on laptops is an effective way to end loneliness.‎ C Today’s parents worry constantly about the kids: What are they watching, seeing, saying, eating? Is that shampoo safe? Are they watching too much TV? Thanks to anti-vaccine(反对疫苗接种) campaigners, add measles (麻疹) to the list.‎ In 2000, doctors were celebrating that measles essentially had been eradicated in the U.S. Even people who could not safely receive the vaccine, such as newborns, were protected by what's known as “herb immunity (人群免疫).” When a large part of population is immunized, there are few potential carriers to spread the disease, which protects everyone.‎ ‎ But a study published last week in JAMA Prediatrics shows how quickly herd immunity can break. The researchers found that a 5% decrease in measles vaccination in the U.S. could greatly increase the number of measles case every year among children 2 to 11. “The numbers would be higher,” they write, “if unvaccinated infants, adolescents, and adult population were also considered.”‎ ‎ This is worrying when you consider how many parents do not vaccinate their children. Between 2009 and 2013, non-medical exemptions (免除) for school immunizations increased by 19%, according to a 2014 study in the American Journal of Public Health. The exemption rate for kindergartners in Oregon was 6.4%; in Vermont, 5.7%; in Wisconsin, 5.4%. Actually, parents are putting their friends and neighbors in danger because they are greatly influenced by anti-vaccine propaganda (宣传) and start to believe it. ‎ The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that “there is no link between vaccines and autism (自闭症),” rejecting one of the more popular claims. Yet a handful of people who advertise the bad effect of vaccine have managed to plant seeds of doubt in the public mind. In 2014 the CDC reported 667 cases of measles in 27 states—a record since 2000. Worse could be on the way.‎ Measles is considered a particular danger. It can lead to pneumonia or encephalitis, which can cause blindness and permanent brain damage. However, there is no reason for parents to view the vaccine with worry. While they—and all Americans—should worry about instead is the anti-vaccine conspiracy (阴谋) theories that put everyone in danger.‎ 24. Which is the text mainly about?‎ A. Herb immunity is not easy to break.‎ B. Measles is making a comeback in U.S.‎ C. Parents protect children from getting measles.‎ D. The number of measles cases is decreasing every year.‎ 25. The underlined word “eradicate” in Paragraph 2 is closest in meaning to “_______.”‎ A. get rid of B. make up of C. run out of D. appeal to 24. Parents don’t have their children vaccinated against measles because ______.‎ A. they are too busy to get children vaccinated B. vaccines are directly linked to other diseases C. it is not safe for children to receive the vaccine D. they are deeply influenced by anti-vaccine people ‎ 25. What’s the author’s attitude towards the anti-vaccine movement?‎ A. Ambiguous B. Doubtful C. Negative D. Tolerant 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Different parents have different reactions to learning that their children might be experiencing bullying (欺凌). Some may believe that the bullying is a way to “toughen them up”. Others might become so angry that they want to face the bullies themselves or may push their children to fight back. 31 It’s much better to try to calm yourself down and find ways to solve the problem. Here are some suggestions that experts recommend.‎ Talk about bullying. One of the best ways to help your bullied child is to simply talk about bullying. Not about their bully specifically or the trouble they’re going through, but why bullying happens, how bullies typically work, and what they can do to make it stop and help others. They also need to understand that bullies are never be blame for bullying because far too many of them can feel guilty and even become depressed. 32 ‎ ‎ 33 A lot of kids won’t be comfortable coming to their parents for help for a variety of reasons, so it’s important that you do everything you can to show them that talking to you about a problem is something safe. Make sure they know that you care and that you’re willing to listen no matter what, but don’t press them for information or they might retreat further into themselves.‎ Document everything. 34 School authorities will often want proof if you go to them with accusation, and the court will certainly need it if it gets to the point that you need to make it a legal matter. Just as importantly, hanging on to things like e-mails can really help if your son or daughter is being targeted by anonymous bullies, because authorities sometimes use that information to track down the bully.‎ Go to officials. Letting bullying go too far can lead to all kinds of potential physical and psychological damage. 35 Meetings like this can go one of two ways—you can focus on the problem by yourself and make actions against the bullies, or you can work with school officials to start programs that education their students about bullying and seek to control it in the school.‎ A. Keep an eye out for your child.‎ B. Make yourself available to your child.‎ C. These choices are rarely the right way to handle bullying.‎ D. Sometimes you have to go to school officials to get it stopped.‎ E. You have a number of options available to you depending on your personality.‎ F. If there are records of your child being bullied, it is vital to hold on to the evidence.‎ G. In this way, you can arm your child with information they can use to solve the problem.‎ 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分45分)‎ 第一节:完形填空(共20个小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分)‎ 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。‎ It was a cold, wet day on June 6, when 14-year-old Wasana arrived at school. They immediately went to work. Their goal was to have the old building look best for the Christmas Eve get-together. ‎ Just two days before Christmas, however, a storm swept through the area, leaving a hole in the wall of the house. There was obviously no time to repair the damage before Christmas. The sad couple attended local auction (拍卖) that afternoon. One of the items put up for bids (竞标) was an old gold-and-ivory-colored tablecloth. Seized by an inspiration, the young man was the highest bidder at $6.50. His idea was to hang the cloth to cover the ragged hole. ‎ On the day before Christmas, it was snowy. As the young man unlocked the house door, he noticed an old woman standing at the bus stop. He knew the bus wouldn’t be there within at least half an hour, so he invited her inside to keep warm. ‎ When the woman walked in and saw the tablecloth, she rushed at it and said excitedly, “It’s mine. It is my tablecloth.” she told the surprised man its history and even showed him her name in one corner of the tablecloth. She and her husband had once lived in Vienna, Austria, and their village was hit by a deadly disease. So they decided to flee (逃跑) to Switzerland, but her husband told her to leave first, saying he had something urgent to deal with. A few days later, it was reported that the bus her husband took fell off the cliff (悬崖) and he was never to be found. Her husband was believed to have died. Touched by her story, the young man asked about her address, planning to send the tablecloth to her after Christmas. As the bus came, she left. ‎ When the Christmas Eve came, the man invited his friends to come to his house to enjoy the dinner together. In the candlelight of the Christmas Eve, the tablecloth ‎ looked even more beautiful.
